Leaders: Remain Consistent in an Inconsistent Time

Branding in an organization is important, but what’s more important is remaining consistent with the branding message. While companies will make changes to their products or services, it’s important for an organization to not lose sight of the message associated with their brand.

In a recent article by Tanveer Naseer, he writes, “while it’s easy to understand why a consistent message is important for the management of a product brand, what’s often overlooked is how it’s equally critical to the process of leading a team toward a shared goal.” Naseer describes how in today’s economy, leaders are becoming more reactive than proactive in their approach and need to change. He states the importance of leaders to “review and reflect the messages they are sending out as a result of their actions or conduct.”

In order to remain consistent to your branding message and to your team during an inconsistent time in our economy, Naseer recommends the following three steps:

  1. Define what you want your leadership values to be – By defining your own personal leadership values, you enable your employees with a guide to help define your leadership.
  2. Put these values into actionable steps – Use your values to guide the purpose and measure the steps to take to encourage the thinking and actions wanted from your team for a desired outcome.
  3. Monitor and review how your team perceives your leadership – Communicate, communicate, communicate. Allow your team to provide feedback to you on a regular basis in order to ensure how you interpret your leadership skills is congruent with your team’s perception.

While it’s easy for a company to get off course in a global economy that is chaotic, it’s vitally necessary for a leader to stay communicative with his or her employees in order to stay on track, and remain consistent with its company’s branding message.
